Season 2026 Has Started!

Last week, during some much-needed sunshine, we had our first harvest of the year – Fancy Daffs and Icelandic Poppies.

Our first boxes are always in limited quantities while the fields wake up and as usual they absolutely flew off the shelves; everyone is hungry for spring! If they’ve already sold out when you get there, fear not, you can sign up to be notified when they’re back in stock.

Our goal is always to offer homegrown flowers as early in the year and for as long as possible, so how did we do compared to last year’s season kick-off?

When it comes to the timing of flowers blooming, there is a certain amount you can do to control the broad time-frame – when and where you plant them out, which techniques you use – but after that the specifics are down to good ol’ Mother Nature, who will not be project managed. Good for her, she’s an enigma but we love her.

By comparison to last year, our Fancy Daffs were a few weeks later this year. We haven’t checked the weather records but we can say with some certainty that we can’t have possibly had more rain at the start of last year than we have this year. These things make a difference.

However, our Icelandic Poppies have bloomed earlier than ever this year! As well as a few rogue ones in December, our poppies were a whopping 6 days earlier this year! Maybe not a huge difference, but still a win in our eyes.
